Product director here at SpotRight, Louis Rolleigh is a part of our award-winning product team and our resident analytics guru and the expert on nearly all thing data related. He has even been called Professor Rolleigh on occasion. Each month we’ll take some time to introduce you to the people behind the products and services you use and (we hope!) love.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Louis: I first thought about exercise, or the fun and challenges of work, but I realized that for me it’s really the relationships in my life that get me excited to start each day. They really are the things that motivate me to move. I try to start each day with a cup of coffee and a short devotional – my relationship with Jesus Christ is very important and I look forward to that time for reflection and getting centered. My wife and I frequently walk or ride bicycles after coffee, and I treasure those times and look forward to whatever activity we have on tap each morning. And I’m blessed to work with good friends who are also good people and I look forward to visiting and working with them each morning and through the day as it unfolds.
How would you describe your day job to a child?
Louis: It probably would depend on the age of the child. But for a young child I’d say that I get to hang out with my friends every day building cool apps for computers.
What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?
Louis: On the personal level, and at the top of the heap for me, is my family. I’ve been blessed by a great wife and three boys who each have their own lives now. Our oldest is a U.S. Navy pilot and officer (Lt.), our middle son owns a successful and growing small business, and our youngest will graduate from Ole Miss this spring and be commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the Marine Corps. And they are all three really good men. Professionally I’ve also been blessed to be a small part of some fantastic successes at each of my three careers, including and leading up to our incredible and award winning app here at SpotRight.
What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?
Louis: I work from my cozy home-based office, so although I try to head into the Little Rock office every few weeks to be around our team in person, my usual day involves a lot of video conferencing, instant messaging through Slack, and reading/writing emails to stay in touch with everyone as we work through the tactical issues related to developing apps and supporting customers. We try to balance the tactical work with strategic by spending some time each day reading to keep up with technology and business developments, or sketching out ideas for our next wave of product innovation. Currently I’m helping wrap up the personalization efforts for our latest client while preparing to incorporate a significant new data partner into our insights and audiences.
What three words would you use to describe your role?
Louis: Customers shouldn’t puke. After all our design work, engineering, positioning and marketing, when our clients buy our products and use them to solve their problems, they should be delighted, not nauseous.
Given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?
Louis: A charter boat captain. Minus the funny hat. I’d like to welcome guests on board, make them comfortable, and take them on adventures along the southern Gulf coastline, the Florida Keys, or the Bahamas.
